Joann M. (Campanella) Barrett, a longtime resident of Melrose and former resident of Medford, Everett and longtime resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a lengthy illness. She was 74 years old.
Joann was born in Boston on April 1, 1940, a daughter of the late Joseph Campanella and Concetta (DiPaola) Campanella. She grew up in the West End of Boston where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Girls High School. Joann was a homemaker most of her adult life taking care of her 5 children. She enjoyed playing bingo and most of all she enjoyed the special times with each one of her grandchildren.
Joann is the devoted mother of Michele Barrett of Reading, Lori Barrett of Charlestown, Kelly Gardell of Worcester, John Murphy of Melrose and the late Robert Barrett. She is the loving Nana to Robert, Erin, Kendall, Kelsey, Shari, Ashley and the late Quinlan and also her 5 great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of Henry Campanella of Saugus.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joann's visiting hours on Monday morning, December 15, 2014 from 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 12 Noon. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
