Robert J. Cox (Bob) of Worcester passed away December 9, 2014, after a short illness with his loving family by his side. He was born and raised in Worcester, MA, son of John P. and Irene P. (LeDuc) Cox. He leaves his beloved wife of 58 years, Betty A. (Spongberg) Cox, four daughters, Irene Hadley and her husband Mark of Worcester and Jupiter, FL; Barbara Kewley and her husband Joseph of Rutland and Portsmouth, NH; Karen Marshall and her husband Roy of Worcester; and Anne Staples and her fiancé Wayne Stevens of Worcester. He leaves ten grandchildren, Kristen Clifford and her husband Joseph, Michael Hadley, Ryan Staples and his wife Heather, Joseph Kewley, Anthony Kewley, Anna Staples, Mackenzie Kewley, Patrick Staples, Peter Marshall, and Nicole Marshall. He also leaves three great-grandchildren, Reagan, Maura, and William Clifford. He leaves his brother Clifford and his wife Dorothy of Worcester and Palmetto, FL, and many nieces and nephews of whom he was very proud. Two brothers, John P. Cox and Raymond P. Cox predeceased him.

Mr. Cox was a 1951 graduate of the former Commerce High School in Worcester where he excelled in many sports including football, basketball, and baseball. He played semi-professional soccer with the American Soccer League and was inducted into the Ludlow Lusitano Soccer Hall of Fame in 1991.

He spent his career as an automobile salesman for Bancroft Motors, Edward Buick, and North End Motors for more than 40 years before his retirement.

He was a loving husband and friend to his wife Betty – they both shared a love of travel – and a wonderful father and grandfather. He treasured family time, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren around him.
