CHICOPEE – Michael J. “Mike” Sears, 80, of the Ferry Lane section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, December 8, 2014. He passed into Eternal Life from his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Ballyferriter, County Kerry, Ireland on June 19, 1934, a beloved son of the late Thomas Sears and Margaret (O’Connor) Sears. He was raised and schooled in Ireland, came to Holyoke in 1955 and moved to Chicopee in 1960. He was employed as a stationary fireman at the Cabotville Industrial Park in Chicopee. He was a member of the Fairview Council 4044 Knights of Columbus where he volunteered for their monthly spaghetti suppers and a member of the John Boyle O’Reilly Club in Springfield. Active in his faith, he was a longtime communicant of Holy Name of Jesus Church and currently a communicant of Saint Anthony of Padua Church, both in Chicopee. Most of all, Mike was a family man who adored his family and showered them with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Andrew and Denis Sears; and his brother-in-law, Padraig Moriarty. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Helene C. (Kane) Sears. They were married on September 17, 1960 at Saint Nicholas of Tolentine Church in Jamaica, New York and were blessed with over 54 years of happiness together. He also leaves his loving children, Michael, Christine, Kenneth and Elizabeth; their spouses, Toussaint, Christine and Timothy; his six cherished grandchildren whom he adored, Ryan, Shannon, Kathryn, Emily, Benjamin and Aiden; his brothers and sister, Thomas Sears and his wife, Mary, Patrick Sears and his wife, Bridget, and Margaret Moriarty, all of County Kerry, Ireland; and his many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Sears and Kane families. His funeral will be held on Saturday morning, December 13, 2014 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 56 Saint Anthony Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. His burial will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery, 292 Hampden Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 12, 2014 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
