Obituary

A. Joan (Raposa) Manchester, 79, of Westport, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2014 at Tufts Medical Center with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Kenneth L. Manchester.


Born in Westport, daughter of the late George C. and Agnes E. (Whittle) Raposa, she was a lifelong resident of the town. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a school teacher for the Town of Westport for 30 years. She was a member of the Westport Acoaxet Club and Baker’s Beach Club, Westport. Mrs. Manchester was an avid Mah Jongg teacher and player, enjoyed cooking and being out on the Westport River. She also enjoyed knitting, her book clubs and will be missed by her 2 Huskies, Zak & Zoe.

Survivors include her son: Kenneth A. “Skip” Manchester and his wife Pamela of Westport; her 2 daughters: Deborah J. Harrington and her husband Alan of Bedford, MA and Meri-Ellen Manchester of Westport; 2 brothers: George C. Raposa of Westport and Daniel J. Raposa of New Bedford; 1 sister: Lois Montigny Guay of Westport; 5 grandchildren: Tyler & Ethan Harrington, Jordan, Andee & Hallie Manchester; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Patricia A. Thadeu and Jan Richard Raposa.


Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, December 12, 2014 at 9:00 A.M. from POTTER FUNERAL HOME, 81 Reed Road, Westport, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 5-8 P.M.


Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
