Samuel C. Barbaro, 88, of Whitman, Massachusetts was surrounded by his loving family when he passed at his home on December 3rd. He died after a period of failing health.
He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on February 19, 1926. He was the son of Alice Cunningham and Samuel Barbaro.
He proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps in WWII in the 6th Marine Division (participated in the Battle of Okinawa on Sugarloaf Hill). His unit received the Presidential Unit Citation. He was a member of the 6th Marine Division Association and attended many of the reunions.
He was employed as a meat cutter for 34 years at Swift & Company and other establishments.
He was an avid gardener and was well known for his roadside vegetable stand. Some of his other life passions included ballroom dancing, traveling, reading, cooking, and spending quality time with his family.
He was a long time member of the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman K of C, and Whitman VFW. He lived his life by being a positive example for all to follow and was truly a man of integrity
He was the devoted husband of Frances Barbaro for 64 years. He was the brother of the Antoinette Bohane and the late Dominica Lowry.
He has left a wonderful legacy for his eight children to follow. They are Alice, Diane, Paula, Jeanne, Steven, Elaine, Tom, and Pamela. He also leaves behind four son-in-laws, 17 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
His funeral services will be held on Saturday December 6th at 8:15 from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9:00AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the St James Cemetery, Whitman. Visitation will be held on Friday December 5th from 4:00-8:00PM.
