MEREDITH – Janet R. (Miller) Schmid, 93, died Monday, December 1, 2014 at Forestview Manor after a period of declining health.
She was born on June 15, 1921 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her father was a florist there and moved to Needham, Mass. where Janet grew up. She graduated from Lasell Jr. College and worked in the Navy building in Boston during World War II where she met her husband, Robert H. Schmid who was in the Navy. Janet was a mother, wife and homemaker. She lived in Manchester, NH for many years. She did not work outside the home except to fill in at her husband’s office as a temporary secretary when needed. She was very accomplished at knitting and crocheting, making mittens with intricate designs and crocheted bedspreads. Janet loved coming to Lake Winnipesaukee with her family on weekends to swim and boat. She enjoyed gardening with her husband, both flowers and vegetables. She was also an excellent cook. When she was in her early 80’s, she rode a Segway at Thanksgiving. She thought it was great fun. She spent the last two years at Forestview Manor in Meredith.
She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Schmid Tetrault and her husband Gerald, her step grandchildren; Michael of Manchester, Kristine of Suncook and Matthew of South Carolina, her two step great grandchildren, Jacob and Nathan Tetrault of Manchester. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert H. Schmid in 2006.
Memorial calling hours will be held from 9:30AM to 11AM on Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, using the Whipple Ave entrance. A memorial service will immediately follow at 11AM, also at the funeral home.
