Clarance Avery Cleghorn, Jr. 74, of Tifton died Monday, December 1, 2014, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2014, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Dr. Jerry Kennedy officiating. Mr. Cleghorn will be laid to rest at a later date. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 5, 2014, from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Full military honors were given for Mr. Cleghorn on the front lawn of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals immediately following the service.
Mr. Cleghorn was born on December 23, 1939 in Irwin County and was the son of Clarance Avery Cleghorn, Sr. and Doris Rooks Cleghorn, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Gail Cleghorn. He retired as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. Following his retirement, he owned and operated Aliso Viejo Auto in California.
Mr. Cleghorn is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Woods Cleghorn of Tifton; one son, Zackary Cleghorn of California; one daughter and son-in-law, Zoe and Don Larson of Independence, Kentucky; five brothers, Aaron Cleghorn of Stockbridge, Charles Cleghorn of Ashburn; Ricky Cleghorn of Sycamore, Alex Cleghorn of Youngsville, North Carolina and Robert Cleghorn of Louisiana; three sisters, Elise Arthur of Ocilla, Louise Murphy of
Augusta and Polly Hogan of Irwinville; three grandchildren, Sabrina Ann Cook and her husband, Avery of Tifton, Bethany Larson and Shane Larson, both of Kentucky; his local great-niece and great-nephew, Shirley Cook and Johnathan Cook; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
