James W. Cravey, 79, of Fitzgerald, died Friday, November 28, 2014, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 4:30 P.M., Sunday, November 30, 2014, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Greg Gunby officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Friends and family are invited to share a meal together at 1 P.M. at Fitzgerald Home Church on East Central Avenue.
Mr. Cravey was born March 21, 1935, in Dodge County, Georgia, to the late John Hance Cravey and Annie Pearl Walker Cravey Poole. Following the death of his father, he was raised by his step-father: Guyon Poole. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was a long-time employee of the Ben Hill County Road Department where he worked making signs. He loved to tinker with woodworking and enjoyed piddling around his shop. Mr. Cravey deeply loved his family and was a member of Fitzgerald Home Church.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years: Linda Walsh Cravey of Fitzgerald; two sons: Jimmy & Lavonda Cravey of Pearson and John Thomas “Tommy” Cravey of Fitzgerald; a daughter: Victoria & William Scarborough of Fitzgerald as well as eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: John Claxton Cravey and William Henry “Bill” Cravey.
