Obituary

Charlie Danny Sirmans, 84, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at Irwin County Hospital.

Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Friday, November 28, 2014, at Fletcher Cemetery in Berrien County, Georgia, with the Rev. Ed Reeves officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mr. Sirmans was born April 11, 1930, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late John and Elda Whitley Sirmans. He was a store clerk with the Lil Pantry convenience store and an auto mechanic with Hudson Chevrolet. He enjoyed riding Harley Davidson’s motorcycles and playing guitar with the Pelham Jamboree. He is included in the Country Music Hall of Fame in Macon, Georgia. Mr. Sirmans served his country honorably in the United State Army during the Korean War and was a recipient of a Purple Heart Medal. Mr. Sirmans was a member of Big Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his children: John and Debbie Sirmans of Ocilla, James Sirmans of Collins, and a daughter-in-law: Redelia Sirmans of Fitzgerald, three grandchildren: Adrienne Escobar of Ocilla, Andrew Sirmans of Hortense and Brandon Sirmans of Adel; two great-grandchildren: Rhianna Escobar of Ocilla and Lane Escobar of Ocilla and two sisters: Loudelle S. Hooker of Valdosta and Katherine S. Barfield of Moultrie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Dorothy E. Sirmans; a son: Chris Sirmans; two brothers: Larry & Johnny Sirmans and a grandson: Miles Dillon Sirmans.
