Olin Way Shaver, 93, of Mystic died Monday, November 24, 2014 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London. He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Nina Shaver. He was born on November 9, 1921 in Norwich, CT the son of the late Jay and Helen Way Shaver.
He served in the US Navy during World War II in the amphibious area, taking part in five European invasions including D Day at Normandy. He achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was retired after 29 years in the Engineering Department of Pfizer.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son Rick and daughter-in-law Cathleen Shaver. He leaves three grandsons, Jonathan, Brandon and Jason and two great grandsons. He is also survived by his sister Helen Shaver Day and her husband Robert L. Day of Naples Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Olin Jay Shaver in 2007, a member of the New London Fire Company.
A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, November 28, 2014 at 12:30pm in Maplewood Cemetery, Norwich.
