Obituary


RICHARD GILLIS WHITMAN,, age 68, of Stowe, VT, passed away on Saturday, November 27th, 2004 following a brief illness in the Vermont Respite House in Williston, VT. Born in Boston, MA of February 11th, 1936, he was the son of the late Chester G. Margaret (Badger) Whitman. In 1962 he married the former Susan Lenz in Newport, RI.

Richard was a 1954 graduate of Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree and continued his education at Holy Cross, graduating with a degree in Business Administration in 1960. He served in the United States Army and following his discharge, worked for IBM as a hardware salesman. An avid skier, Richard moved to the Ski Capital of the East, making his home in Stowe for the past 18 years where he pursued his passion and worked as a bookkeeper at the Stowehof Inn. He has been an active speaker and sponsor for Alcoholics Anonymous throughout central Vermont.

An lifelong Red Sox and Chicago Bears fan, Richard also enjoyed playing cribbage.

Richard is survived by his children, Jennifer Whitman of Somerville and Matthew Whitman of Winooski, VT; his sisters, Joan Sullivan of Virginia Beach, VA, Nancy Blutt of Melrose
and Susan Whitman of Weymouth; his brothers, Peter G. Whitman of Cohasset and Robert Whitman of Randolph; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, David G. Whitman.

A Graveside Service will be conducted on Saturday, Dec. 18th at 10:45 AM at St. Paul's Cemetery, Hersey St., Hingham.
