Antonio Sousa Bettencourt, 82, of Lawrence, MA passed away peacefully on November 24, 2014 at the Hospice House in Haverhill, MA surrounded by his loving family. Antonio was born on October 16, 1932 in Faial, Azores, Portugal, to Guilherina and Antonio Bettencourt.
Antonio worked at the Shoe Carton Corporation of Methuen for many years until his retirement at the age of 65. He was a member of the Portuguese American Club and the Holy Ghost Fraternity of Lawrence.
Antonio is survived by his wife of 55 years, Maria Bettencourt of Lawrence. They had two sons Antonio Manuel Bettencourt(deceased) of Lawrence and Paul Jorge Bettencourt and his wife Helene of Dracut. Antonio is also survived by his three grandsons that were his pride and joy. Anthony Bettencourt and his wife Megan of Denver, CO. Tyler and Bradley Bettencourt of Dracut.
He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Eduardo and Albertina, and Manuel and Manuela Bettencourt, of Pico and Lisbon, Portugal, as well as his sister-in-law Irene Bettencourt, of New Bedford. MA.
Antonio enjoyed spending time with his family, working on his home, swimming each day at the Andover YMCA and summers in homeland of Portugal.
Friends and guests are invited to call on November 28th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, at 233 Lawrence St. in Methuen. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on November 29th at 1:00 p.m. at the Corpus Christi/Holy Rosary Church of Lawrence.
