Obituary

MYSTIC: James R. Brown Sr. of Mystic passed into Eternal Life with his family beside him on November 23, 2014.

Mr. Brown was born on November 1, 1927 in New London, CT, son of Robert and Margaret (Kearns) Brown. Mr. Brown graduated from Chapman Tech in 1945. While attending UCONN’s ROTC program he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1947. He then joined the Robertson Paper Box Company, starting as a production worker. He earned several promotions throughout his career, and was eventually appointed vice president of sales in 1982, a position he held until he retired after 46 years of service. Mr. Brown met the love of his life, the former Marian E. Roy whom he married in 1947. They were truly soul mates and madly in love for 67 years.

Mr. Brown was an active member of St. Patrick’s Church in Mystic where he served as a lector. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society. His love of sacred music brought him to sing with the Sacred Heart Choir in Taftville for many years. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife Marian, a daughter Cheryl Ann Baribeault of Baltimore, MD, a son James R. Brown Jr. of Franklin CT and his sister Ann Marie Brown of Springfield PA. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his son, Kevin P. Brown of Stonington CT and his brother Robert L. Brown of Niantic CT.

A Funeral Mass will be conducted on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 11:00am at St. Patrick Church, 32 East Main Street, Mystic. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery will be private for the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his memory to Center for Hospice Care Southeast Connecticut, 227 Dunham Street, Norwich CT 06360.
