Obituary

Florence L. “Bonnie” (Maxcy) Meader, 98, of Westport Harbor, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Freeman D. Meader.
Born in Pawtucket, RI, daughter of the late Frank and Florence (Howells) Maxcy, she grew up in North Attleboro, MA. Following her marriage, she moved to Westport in 1945. For many years she worked as a bookkeeper at Manchester’s Store in Adamsville, RI and later as a research librarian at UMASS Dartmouth, retiring in 1981. Following her retirement, she traveled extensively. She later made Phoenix, AZ her winter home for several years where she made many new friends, enjoyed a variety of activities with them and hosted numerous visitors “from back East”.
Mrs. Meader was a former member of the Oldtown First Congregational Church of North Attleboro and attended Old Stone First Baptist Church in Tiverton, RI while residing in Westport. She also attended Sunnyslope Presbyterian Church when in Phoenix. She was recently presented with her 75th year pin from the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her son: Robert Meader and his wife Elisabeth of Hanover, MA; her daughter: Janet M. Turner of Westport; 4 grandchildren: Daniel Turner and his wife Jennifer, Robert Meader and his wife Shawndra; Glenn Meader and his wife Angelique and Rebecca Harris; and 5 great grandchildren. She was also the “mother” of 2 foreign exchange students: Irmgard Fausto and Sisse Margrethe Landert.
She was the sister of the late Eleanor McClintock Razee.
Services are private.
