Lois A. (Rathbun) Swett, 72, of 248 Bridge Street, Westbrook, ME, a longtime former resident of Mystic, died Saturday at Mercy Hospital in Portland after a lengthy struggle with cancer.
Mrs. Swett was born in Cranston, RI on October 27, 1932 the daughter of Fred F. and Harriet V. (Spinney) Rathbun. She was a 1950 graduate of Cranston High School and later attended the University of Rhode Island.
A resident of Mystic for 50 years, she and her husband moved to Westbrook in 2003. Prior to her retirement in 1995, she was employed as a Customer Service Representative and Supervisor at the Mystic Color Lab. She had previously been employed as a bookkeeper at the Mystic Seaport Museum for 18years.
Known as a warm, loving a giving person, she enjoyed camping, travelling, bingo and loved animals. She was a Life member and Past President and Secretary of the Hugo Simonelli Post VFW Ladies' Auxillary in Mystic.
She was married to John L. Swett in Cranston on June 20, 1953. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2003. In addition to her husband, she is survived by several cousins and her adopted daughter, Carol Wilcox of Westbrook.
Her funeral service will be conducted at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic, on Thursday at 10am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. The Rev. Dr. G. Kenneth Carpenter, Pastor of Union Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be private in Woodland Cemetery, Coventry RI.
