"Mac" Howard J. Macomber Jr. on February 4, 1944 began this adventure known as
life and took his mortal leave at his home on November 18, 2014.
For Mac, family and home were his first priorities. He believed and demonstrated
that love is what makes a family. He was an awe inspiring father, loving
husband, doting Grampy, caring brother, and a kind, generous, and compassionate
friend.
He was predeceased by his parents Virginia S. (Bryant) and Howard J. Macomber
Sr; and from his chosen family, Gail Stanley, a woman who was an amazing
blessing to his family.
Carrying on his spirit will be his husband of 30 years Doug Moffat (Ledyard CT)
their daughters Heather Macomber-Skvarna (Lemoyne PA) and Jennifer Macomber
(Mystic CT) and granddaughters Evyn Skvarna and Sophia Macomber, his brother
John Macomber (Attleboro MA), his baby sister Bonnie Carner (Westerly, RI) and
several nieces and nephews.
He was sobriety partner to Bill Wilson for 36 years.
A gentle and simple but not simple-minded man, Mac was passionate about his
second career as a gerontological nurse. A devout second/third shifter, he felt
mornings were highly overrated and firmly believed that it was uncivilized to
engage in morning banter especially before finishing a first cup of coffee.
Cancer was the final roller coaster ride of his life adventure.
On Sunday November 30, 2014 at the Mystic Art Center family and friends will
gather to remember Mac.
5:30-7pm Soup and Stories
7pm Remembering Mac
As many know, Mac had a love of flowers and a belief they belonged in gardens --
where he most appreciated them. So in lieu of sending flower arrangements please
consider continuing Mac's generosity through a donation to any of these
institutions that he supported: Center for Hospice Care (Norwich, CT) for a
paving block for the healing garden; Alliance for Living (New London, CT); Gray
Cancer Center at Hartford Hospital (Hartford, CT). Thank you.
His memory will resonate through the many hearts and hands he touched.
MAC WILL CONTINUE TO BE LOVED TO THE MOON AND BACK.
