Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Robert G. Clifford, 79, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, November 16, 2014. He passed into Eternal Life at Wingate at West Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his wonderful caregivers. He was born in Springfield on December 20, 1934, a beloved son of the late Harold P. and Violet E. (Smith) Clifford and was a lifelong resident of the city. He served his country in the United States Army and attained the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. Following his military service, he returned to Springfield and was employed as a machinist at Smith & Wesson and later at the Titeflex Corporation. He leaves his loving brother, Ralph R. Clifford of Springfield with whom he lives; his loving sister, Barbara A. Appleby of West Springfield; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Clifford and Smith families. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear brother and sister-in-law, Francis R. Clifford who was Called Home on August 21, 1992 and his wife, Mary G. (Lynch) Clifford who was Called Home on March 28, 2011; and his dear brother-in-law, Sanford H. Appleby who was Called Home on February 15, 1992. His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. His burial with US Army Military Honors will follow the service at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker Street, Springfield, MA 01129.
