DANVERS- Helen A. (Papacostas) Georgilakis, 82, of Danvers, wife of the late Peter J. Georgilakis, died Friday morning, December 10, 2004, in a local nursing home following a brief illness.
Born and raised in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Anastasia (Bariotos) Papacostas and was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1939.
Prior to her retirement, she and her late husband founded and operated the Gold Star Coffee Company in Salem.
During WWII, she served in the AWS (Air Warning Service) as a plane spotter for the Civil Defense Air Corp. She was a member of the St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody, where she served on the P.T.A. and was a member of Philoptohos Athena. She was a resident of Danvers for the past 33 years and previously lived in Salem.
Mrs Georgilakis is survived by one daughter, Cassandra C. Georgilakis of Danvers, one granddaughter, Maricela Georgilakis of Danvers, three sisters, Virginia and her husband John Tsouvalas, and Anna Ransom, all of Peabody, Mary Raby of Salem, one sister-in-law, Catherine Papacostas of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, one brother-in-law, John Cokorogianis of Peabody, and several nieces and nephews, including her three god children, Linda Ransom of Wasilla, Alaska, Kathy Brings of Beverly and Thetis Kelly of Tacoma Washington. She was predeceased by two brothers, Dr. Charles Papacostas, James Papacostas and one sister, Effie Cokorogianis.
Her funeral will be held Monday, December 13, 2004 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral service at 10 am at the St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial is in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours are Sunday, 2 to 6 pm.
