Tommie Clark, 68, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, November 14, 2014, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held 3:30 PM, Sunday, November 16, 2014, at Pine Level United Methodist Church Cemetery, in Ben Hill County, with the Rev. Rex Johnson and the Rev. Dr. Dan Williamson officiating. The body will lie in repose at the funeral home for anyone wishing to pay their respects. The family requests friends call on them from 6-9 Saturday evening at the home of Joyce Bishop, 502 Oriole Road, Fitzgerald.
Mr. Clark was born August 14, 1946, in Alamo, Georgia, to the late Herlie & Bessie Clark. He lived in the community all of his life. Mr. Clark served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany. He had a distinguished career in law enforcement spanning almost four decades. He worked for the Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Department and the Tifton Police Department while most of his career was served with the Fitzgerald Police Department. He retired as Captain of Detectives for the City of Fitzgerald. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. Mr. Clark was a member of Pine Level United Methodist Church, Pine Level Lodge #353 F.&A.M., and the Hasan Shrine Temple.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years: Delene B. Clark of Fitzgerald; a son: Michael & April Clark of Tifton; his grandchildren to whom he was “Papa Tommie”: Daniel Clark, Jade Clark, Savannah Strahan, Juliana Clark, Natalie Strahan, Gage Norton and Johnathan Clark; a brother: Jimmy & Kay Clark of Fitzgerald; his mother-in-law: Joyce Bishop of Fitzgerald; sisters-in-law: Yvonne Clark, Jan & Allen Clements, and Sharon & Larry Tucker; a brother-in-law: Frank & Rebecca Bishop, Jr. as well as several nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by two faithful companions: BooBoo and Patches. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: John Wesley Clark; a brother: L. H. Clark; and two sisters: Angie Clark and Flo McDowell.
