Donovan of Brockton and So.Yarmouth December 9, 2004, Mary J. Donovan, 77 years. Daughter of the late M. Joseph and Margaret L. (Pendergast) Donovan. Sister of Helen M. Sheehan and her husband John F. and Alice F. Ashmore and her husband H. Thomas all of Brockton, Marguerite M. Gabrick and her husband Stephen of So. Yarmouth, James B. Donovan and his wife Patricia of Yarmouthport and the late J. Edward, Joseph T., George L., Rev. William F., Dorothy R. Donovan and Anne L. Duffy. Sister in law of Mary P. Donovan of Brockton. Also survived by eighteen nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the J. Frank Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Monday at 9:30 am. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30 am. Burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 2:30 pm. Visiting hours Sunday 2-6 pm. In lieu of flowers donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1115 W. Chestnut St., Brockton, MA 02301 or to the Dorothy R. Donovan and Rev. William F. Donovan Scholarship Fund c/o Cardinal Spellman High School, 738 Court St., Brockton, MA 02302.

Obituary

Mary J. Donovan died Thursday morning at the Brockton Hospital following a brief illness. Born and raised in Brockton, daughter of the late M. Joseph and Margaret (Pendergast) Donovan. She was a graduate of St. Patrick High School Class of 1945 and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing Class of 1949. Following her graduation she was a registered Nurse at Brockton Hospital and Cape Cod Hospital. In 1954 she enlisted in the US Air Force and began a 20 year career as a flight nurse and nursing administrator, she served in the Vietnam as chief nurse of the 11th aero medical airlift squadron and the 375th airlift Wing Command Post. She retired with the rank of LT. Colonel. In her retirement she divided her time between Brockton and South Yarmouth. She was a member of the Society of Retired Air Forces Nurses, Retired Military Officers Assoc., the Mass. Nurses Assoc. of South Shore, the Twentieth Century Catholic Club and St. Pius X Women’s Guild in So. Yarmouth . Long time communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and St. Pius X Church.

Survived by her sisters and bothers, Helen M. Sheehan and her husband John F. and Alice F. Ashmore and her husband H. Thomas all of Brockton, Marguerite M. Gabrick and her husband Stephen of So. Yarmouth, James B. Donovan and his wife Patricia of Yarmouthport, a sister in law Mary P. Donovan of Brockton, eighteen nieces and nephews and several grand nieces and nephews.
