SPRINGFIELD – Marguerite C. (Despres) Beliveau, 97, a longtime resident of Commonwealth Avenue in the Forest Park section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, November 11, 2014. She passed into Eternal Life at Heritage Hall South in Agawam surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Weedon, Province of Quebec, Canada on October 7, 1917, a beloved daughter of the late Damien and Regina (Briere) Despres. She was raised in Weedon and came to Springfield in 1955. Marguerite was a seamstress in Springfield for many years and was well-known for her excellent sewing by the French Canadian community. She was a communicant of the former Saint Joseph Church and now a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, both in Springfield. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gerard A. Beliveau who was Called Home on February 27, 2004. They were married on August 4, 1943 at Saint Janvier Church in Weedon, Canada and were blessed with over 60 years of happiness together. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her loving daughter, Reine Flahive who was Called Home on April 11, 2005; her loving son-in-law, Michael Alexander who was Called Home on October 23, 2006; her dear brothers, Felix, Regis and Firmin Despres; and her dear sister, Sister Gertrude Despres. She leaves her loving children, Claudette O’Donnell and her husband, Thomas, of Christmas, FL, Francine Arnold and her husband, Alan, of Lecanto, FL, Simon Beliveau and his wife, Doreen, of Agawam, Suzanne Alexander of Marion, IA, and Lucie Beliveau of Ludlow and her partner, John Marcelina, of Conway; her loving son-in-law, Maurice Flahive of East Longmeadow; her nine cherished grandchildren; her 13 cherished great-grandchildren; her dear sisters, Brigitte Despres Bachand of Asbestos, P.Q., Canada, and Judith St. Hilaire of Thetford Mines, P.Q., Canada; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Beliveau and Despres families. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning, November 15, 2014 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA 01129. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 14, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
