Glenn M. Bishop, 64, of Irwin County, Georgia, died on Veteran’s Day at his home after fighting a lengthy battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be held, 4 PM, Saturday, November 15, 2014, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Jack Perrin officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, from 3 to 4, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald. Interment will follow at a later date at Bishop Chapel Church Cemetery in Emanuel County, Georgia.
Mr. Bishop was born August 31, 1950, in Swainsboro, Georgia, to the late Alvin Franklin and Ada Ruth Garland Bishop. He has lived in the community most of his life. Mr. Bishop served in the United States Army Air National Guard and retired as an engineer with the Georgia Technology Authority. He helped to start the telecommunications program at Ben Hill-Irwin Technical College. He was an avid flyer and pilot and had his commercial pilots’ license. His passion was instructing student pilots in Fitzgerald and Tifton. He also worked with Life Flight and the Civil Air Patrol in Tifton. He enjoyed playing the guitar and was a design-build carpenter, building his home from scratch. Mr. Bishop was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years: Linda Bryant Bishop of Irwin County; a brother: Alvin Bishop, Jr. & Essie of Fitzgerald; a sister: Exalva & Jerry Balas of Alpharetta; numerous nieces and nephews to whom he was a wonderful uncle; four brothers-in-law: Lloyd & Ann Bryant of Ohio, Larry & Brenda Bryant of Marietta, Jack & Sylvia Bryant of Fitzgerald and Jim Bryant of Virginia and a sister-in-law: Evelyn Bryant Williams of Gainesville. He was preceded in death by his sister: Ola Dean Belger and a sister-in-law: Shirley Bryant Colston.
The family requests that flowers be omitted and that memorials be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
