Inez C. (Cosme) Souza, 75, of New Bedford died Tuesday December 7, 2004 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home after a long, courageous battle with breast cancer. She was the widow of Secundio C. "Scotty" Souza.
A lifelong resident of New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Agostinho M. and Marianna (Silvia) Cosme. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Cape Cod Hospital School of Nursing. She also had attended Bristol Community College.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Mrs. Souza was formerly employed on the nursing staff at St. Luke's Hospital for 34 years before her retirement in 1990.
She was a member of the American Legion Post #1 Auxiliary, the St. Luke's Hospital Retirees Club, the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, the New Bedford Revolver and Rifle Club, the National Rifle Association, the Panthers Golden Agers, the Teamsters Retirees and Friends, the American Association of Retired Persons, the Massachusetts Senior Action Council Bristol County Chapter, and the Garment Workers Retirees and Friends of Greater New Bedford. She enjoyed dancing and all activities with her Senior Clubs.
Survivors include a son, Curtis A. Souza of New Bedford; two granddaughters, Erica L. Trahan and her husband Lawrence, and Jauna L. Souza, all of New Bedford; her great-granddaughter, Eliana Inez of New Bedford; a brother, Agostinho M. Cosme, Jr. of New Bedford; and her companion, John J. Remillard of New Bedford.
A Private Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday morning December 9, 2004 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial followed in St. John's Cemetery.
