Doris M Mahoney, 93 a lifelong resident of Lawence, died peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2014.
Doris was born in Lawrence, MA to Dennis and Josephine (Perry) Mahoney. She attended St Patrick’s Grammar School and High School. She received her RN from St John’s Hospital in Lowell in 1941. Doris also attended Merrimack College. She served as a Civil Service Nurse at Fort Devens Army Hospital during WWII.
Doris worked as a Nurse in the Greater Lawrence hospitals and spent 23 years as a Public Health Nurse for the City of Lawrence prior to retirement. Doris enjoyed traveling in the US and abroad. She also enjoyed gardening and was an active member of the Lawrence Garden Club for many years.
Doris was predeceased in 2007 by her husband Ray, after 62 years of marriage. She is survived by sons, Raymond and his wife Charline of North Andover, Michael and his wife Kathie of Reading, PA, and Dennis of Lawrence; her brothers, Dennis Mahoney and his wife Muriel, Jack Mahoney and his wife Peg, both of Methuen, and Bill and his wife Margaret of Lawrence; and a sister Claire and her husband Bob Blain of Connecticut. She leaves seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 15th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael Church, 196 Main Street, North Andover, MA. Burial will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, North Andover. A visitation will be held prior to Mass, from 8:30-9:30 a.m at the John Breen Funeral Home, 35 Merrimack St., North Andover. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one’s favorite charity.
