WAYLAND: Philip F. “Phil” McGonagle, 79, died peacefully and comfortably on Sunday, November 9, 2014 following a period of declining health for the past year.
He was born in Boston on August 14, 1935 the son of the late John McGonagle and Ellen (Doherty) McGonagle.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Linda L. (Wilkinson) McGonagle of Englewood, FL; Concord, NH and formerly of Wayland. Devoted father of Michael McGonagle of Great Barrington; Kellie M. Lavner and her husband Robert of Worcester; Philip J. McGonagle, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Westborough and Marc P. McGonagle and his wife Michelle of Concord, NH. Brother of John McGonagle of Shrewsbury. Also survived by 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Phil spent his earlier years in Charlestown and graduated from Charlestown High School with the Class of 1953. He served his country proudly with the United States Navy. He resided in Wayland for over 37 years.
Phil had a long career as a firefighter with the Town of Wayland for 32 years and retired in 1996. He and his wife Linda retired to Florida and spent time also in New Hampshire. He enjoyed all types of sports and especially loved the time spent with his grandchildren. He was devoted to his family and will be fondly remembered by them and all who knew Phil.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the McGonagle family lot in Lakeview Cemetery, Commonwealth Road (Rte 30), Wayland.
