Obituary

NEW BEDFORD -- Harold M. Williams, 88, of New Bedford died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Rachel (Wright) Williams.
Born in Orlando, Fla., the son of the late Lawrence and Bernice Williams, he lived in this community for most of his life.
Mr. Williams was employed by Gitlin Brothers Trucking Co. in Westport for many years.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the 598th Field Artillery and received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze stars and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Fairhaven.
A talented pianist, he often played for "Saturday night shindigs and dancers" when he lived in Florida.
Survivors include his widow; a brother, Leroy Williams of New Jersey; two sisters, Inez Howell and Connie Brisbane, both of Florida; a close nephew, James Hayden of New Bedford; and several other nieces and nephews.
His graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the veterans section of Rural Cemetery.
