Obituary

Phyllis Mary (Lowe) Bujnowski, 86, passed away comfortably on Monday November 3, 2014 surrounded by her family. Phyllis was born in Lowell, MA on August 15, 1928 and moved to Hudson, NH in 1962. She was the daughter of the late George Thomas Lowe and Elizabeth (Whelan) Lowe, one of 8 siblings.
She is predeceased by one son, Walter Bujnowski, Jr. and survived by her only daughter, Lisa Harrington Hubbard and her husband Leslie of Lexington, MA, and three sons; Richard Bujnowski and his wife Savda of Ridge, NH, Kevin Bujnowski and his wife Diane, and David Bujnowski and his wife Cathy, and one daughter in law Judith Bujnowski, all of Hudson, NH and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Family was the most important thing to Phyllis. Upon buying her home here in Hudson NH around 1962, she and her late husband Walter Bujnowski, Sr. divided their 23 acre homestead so their children could build their homes and raise their families’ close by. When they bought the parcel, Phyllis, a city girl, thought she bought all of Hudson.
One of her passions was the wild birds she fed continuously. Every morning at 7am sharp, she’d go outside and whistle. Within minutes, all the birds would wake up and come to eat. Another passion was gardening. She loved watching her plants grow. She’d plant morning glories every year and be amazed at how tall they climb her tree.
Phyllis loved nuts and fruit in her baking. She loved banana nut bread and fresh apple pie right out of the oven. She often enjoyed ginger snaps with tea while spending time with her family. She’d get a kick out of all the fancy teas her granddaughter enjoyed. She’d say they looked like potpourri. Within the family, the Lowe girls were known for their homemade bread. Phyllis’ children would fight over it. Once they finished their loaves, they go to the others houses to sneak slices of theirs. The tradition of sneaking bites continues with the grandchildren.
She loved to travel. She has family in Nevada, Washington DC, and FL and tried to visit as frequently as she could. Her daughter took her to the UK for 3 weeks several years back and she always wished of returning.
She was very active in the community and attended mass at St. Mark Church in Londonderry, NH for the last 40 years. She participated in the senior exercise programs at the Nashua Senior Center for the last 30 years and she was more than excited to see the Hudson Senior Center built and begin participating in their activities. She donated to many charities, including the Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter and the Grey Nuns both in Nashua, NH.
She attended the Senior’s luncheon on the first Tuesday of every month at the Hudson T-Bones restaurant for years and she was a member of the Hudson Coffee Club. Her new favorite restaurant was the Hudson Northside Grille where she was treated like a VIP. She also loved dining at Rocco’s in Litchfield, NH and the Checkers restaurant within Alvirne high school in Hudson, NH.
A favorite pastime was playing cards with her siblings. They took this very seriously. It was a sport in their house. They played 45, Gin, Oh Hell, and Rummy but especially 45. She shared a story of when she and her family would sit around the table playing 45 until the early morning hours. And when her children woke, they’d find coins on the floor underneath the table. Whatever they found was theirs to keep.
Words cannot describe the pain the family feels at this unspeakable time but they find comfort in knowing she was loved by so many.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday November 9, 2014 from 1 pm-4 pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry.
