Obituary

Mary Patricia (Calden) Bassick, 100, formerly of Roslindale, died Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at the Medway Country Manor Nursing Home. She was the wife of Naumann Bassick who died in 1989.

Born in Boston on February 26, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Jeramiah and Jane (Taylor) Calden.

Mrs. Bassick was a homemaker and resident of Roslindale for most of her life.

She was a longtime parishioner of Holy Name Parish in West Roxbury where she was a member of the Band Booster Club and the Bernardines.

Mrs. Bassick was an avid reader and knitter and was a wonderful seamstress.

She is also survived by a son Lawrence Bassick and his wife Mary of Norton, two daughters, Sr. Mary Francis (Elinor), DC of New Salem, PA and Dorothy Robinson and her husband John of Medway, 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by a daughter-in-law Loretta Bassick of Franklin, a sister-in-law Janice Calden of Marlboro and many nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Robert and William Bassick and sister of the late Joseph and Francis Calden and Catherine Hough.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 10:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village St. in Medway at 11 a.m.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4 - 7 p.m.

Burial will take place at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Wednesday, November 12 at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Mary’s memory may be made to Rendu Services c/o Sr. Mary Francis Bassick, 453 Pechin Rd., Dunbar, PA 15431 or to a charity of one’s choice.
