Obituary

Mary V. McGuinness, a Wilmington resident for over sixty years, passed away peacefully following a lengthy illness on November 2nd. She was 87 years of age. Mary was the beloved wife of the late John F. McGuinness. Born in Belmont she was one of four children of the late James and Mary (Gallagher) Carrigan.

Mary was raised and educated in Arlington and was a graduate of Arlington High School. She worked for many years as a purchasing agent with the Atlee Corporation in North Andover prior to her retirement. Mary was mostly devoted to her family and many beloved friends. Always active and having a great energy, Mary loved life and being involved in many different things. Proud of her Irish heritage, Mary was very active throughout the years in the Irish American Community together with her husband and even following his passing in 2007. She was an active member of the Wilmington Senior Center. Mary enjoyed gardening, loved dancing, and was a veracious reader always keeping up to date on current events and politics. Mary especially enjoyed nature and was drawn to the ocean. She loved to spend time on the beach, which was a source of great comfort for her, even if the weather conditions weren’t ideal.

Mary will fondly be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend with an amazing energy and a true zest for life.

In addition to her late husband and parents, Mary is predeceased by her sister Rose Catherine Oman, and brothers, James and Joseph Carrigan. She is survived by her children, John J. McGuinness of Wilmington, and Debra Coddington and her husband John of Beverly. She was the loving grandmother of Annah Rose Coddington. Aunt of Richard Morgan of Norwell, Daniel, David and Drew Carrigan, all of Ohio. Great aunt of Laura Morgan and further survived by many more cherished extended family members.

Funeral services will be held form the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 374 Main St., WILMINGTON, Friday, November 7th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave, Wilmington, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Dello Russo Funeral Home will be Thursday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Mary's memory to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
