Maryon C. (Wasilifsky) Melvin, a resident of Boston and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Monday, November 3, 2014 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a lengthy illness. She was 78 years old.
Maryon was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 28, 1936, a daughter of the late Adolph M. Wasilifsky and Margaret J. (Smith) Wasilifsky. Maryon was widely educated with a passion for English Literature and Education, Maryon was an elementary school teacher in Maryland, Germany and Belgium, and was wildly popular with students and colleagues alike. A world traveler with a flair and affinity for the arts, she was a unique hostess of many soirees in a series of extraordinary homes. Her Catholic roots ran deep and sustained her all her life.
Maryon is the beloved wife of 41 years to the late William A. Melvin. She is the devoted mother of Maria-Elena Augustin and her late husband Walter of Orlando, Florida, Patricia Anne Risi and her husband Matt of San Diego, California, Michele Sanborn and her late husband Robert of Chicago, Illinois, Moira Melvin of Tampa, Florida and Meghan Melvin and her husband Nicholas of Boston. She adored all children, the rounder the better, but most of all her merry band of nine grandchildren. She is the loving “Strega Nona” to Anthony, Michael, Angela and Joseph Risi, Caitlin and Aidan Augustin, Brian Sanborn and Fiala and Charlie Kraman. She is the beloved sister of Justin H. Wasilifsky and his wife Nancy of Vancouver, Canada and the late Michael Wasilifsky.
Maryon's wild sense of humor and spirit will be sorely missed by friends and family around the world.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Maryon's Funeral Mass on Saturday, November 8, 2014 in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Her burial is private. There are no funeral home visiting hours.
