Obituary

Frank Eugene Cowan, Sr., 91, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, October 31, 2014, at Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla, Georgia.

Graveside services will be held 3 P.M., Sunday, November 2, 2014, at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald with the Rev Keith Goodlett officiating.

Mr. Cowan was born September 23, 1923 in Chamblee, Georgia, to the late Theo and Laura Pierce Cowan. When he was a young boy, his family moved to Fitzgerald where they operated a farm. He was drafted into the United States Navy during WWII and spent two years on naval ships. He played baseball in his younger years with the Fitzgerald Silver Leafs. He operated his own businesses in Berrien County and Irwin County for 20 years before retiring in Fitzgerald. During his long retirement, Mr. Cowan enjoyed gardening and working with cows, hogs, and goats on his farm. Mr. Cowan was a member of Central United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 99.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years: Estelle Cowan; his sons and their wives: Frankie & Sylvia of Adel, and Ronnie & Sandy of Fitzgerald; grandchildren and their spouses: Jason & Stephanie Couch, Ryan Couch, Josh Cowan, Daniel & Melissa Cowan, Grant & Allisha Cowan, and Kalee Cowan; and his great-grandchildren: Owen, Mordecai, Britin, Keaton, Tristan, Matthew, Caden, & Brooklyn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Garland, Robert Floyd, Joe, Howard, & Rusty; and a sister: Evelyn.
