Diane A. Carey, 85, formerly of Douglas Circle, Greenville, died peacefully on Friday, October 31, 2014 at Tockwotton On The Waterfront in Providence. She was the widow of Robert W. Carey.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Avice (Matteson) Darnell and sister to the late Russell Darnell. She grew up in Cranston where she graduated from Cranston High School in 1946. After high school, she attended Katherine Gibbs School and began her long career with Hospital Trust Bank then Fleet Bank where she established many lifelong friendships. She moved to Greenville shortly after marrying Robert and lived there for 54 years before moving to Providence. In her leisure time, Diane enjoyed spending time at the beaches of Point Judith where she spent her summers as a child, exploring the beauty of New Hampshire, and tending her flower gardens. Her greatest pleasure was cooking wonderful meals for her family and friends where the conversations were as enjoyable as the food. Diane had a great connection with children and especially enjoyed her time with her grandchildren. She was an active member and leader on the Reunion Committee for Cranston High School, Class of 1946, a member at St. Thomas Episcopal Church where she volunteered for events and committees, and a volunteer at several area hospitals in her retirement.
She is survived by her children: William L. Carey of Block Island, Susan D. Carey of Providence, and Richard H. Carey and his wife Leslie of Lynnfield, MA, and her five grandchildren: David Carey, Evan Carey, Lyle Carey, Eric Carey and Allison Carey; and her great-grandchild David Carey, Jr.
