TEWKSBURY: Roger S. Field, age 83, a resident of Tewksbury for over 50 years, died Monday, December 6, 2004 at the Northwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Lowell.
He was the husband of the late Mary “Ciril” (Otto) Field, who died December 6, 1993.
Born in Wilmington on July 31, 1921, he was the son of the late Frederick A. and Lydia E. (Younis) Field.
Mr. Field was raised in Wilmington and attended Wilmington schools.
In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Bailey. Mr. Field was awarded several decorations including the American Theatre Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal.
Prior to his retirement in 1984, he was employed as a mechanic in the truck division of the International Harvester Corporation of Medford.
Mr. Field was a communicant of St. Williams Parish of Tewksbury.
He was a member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Lodge of Elks # 2070 and the Tewksbury V.F.W. Post # 8164.
He is survived by 4 sons; Roger W. “Billy” Field and his wife Donna (Wood) of Boynton Beach, FL, Thomas F. “Tom” Field of Chelmsford, John F. “Jack” Field and his wife Barbara (Sullivan) of Cape Coral, FL and Edward A. Field of Chelmsford; a sister; Martha Howe of Wilmington; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Field was the father of the late Michael W. Field and brother of the late Madge Sabre, Frederick and James Field.
Calling hours Friday 5-9 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Saturday at 8 a.m. from the funeral home. Funeral Mass Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140 or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 are suggested.
