POUGHKEEPSIE, NY- Ethel Valentine (Dinsdale) Berg, 96, went home to heaven Saturday, December 4th at Eden Park Nursing Home, surrounded by family and loved ones. Her husband Carl Edwin Berg died in 1970. She leaves her best friend of 74 years, Dorothy Hazen, a son, David Carl Berg of Salt Lake City, a daughter, Carol Elizabeth Hopkins of Poughkeepsie, 19 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. 2 daughters Barbara A. Hallihan of Leicester and Nancy L. Carlson of St. Petersburg predeceased her.
She was born in Worcester, February 14th, 1908 the daughter of William and Rachel (Pearson) Dinsdale. Ethel was married to Carl Edwin Berg on September 21st, 1934. She later lived in St. Petersburg with her life long friend Dorothy Paul Hazen. They were both active members of St. Bede’s Episcopal Church in St. Petersburg. As the “Sunshine Lady” of her church, Ethel sent spiritual poems each month to countless shut-ins.
The funeral is Thursday, December 9th with a graveside service at 11:00 AM in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Wednesday, December 8th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue.
