Obituary

Margaret (Geary) Sudbey, 68, of Newton who was the retired Director of Volunteers at the Newton Free Library, died Sat. Dec 4, 2004 at her home in Newton.
Born in Boston she was raised in Allston and graduated from St. Columbkille High School in 1953. She attended Windham Academy, Newton College of the Sacred Heart and received her B.A. in English and Psychology from UMASS Boston in 1977. Margaret was an active volunteer with the Friends of the Newton Free Library, serving as Treasurer of the Book and Author Luncheon Committee, Secretary and Membership Chair of the Board of the Friends of the Newton Free Library. She was recognized for her many years of involvement with the library on Nov. 3, 2004 when a plaque was dedicated in her name. She also was a member of the Social Science Club of Newton, one of the oldest women’s study clubs in the nation, where she served as President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Director, and was a member of the All Newton Music School’s Archive Committee and Member of the Board.
Margaret was also treasurer and member of Our Lady Help of Christians HandBell Choir, Member of the Board of Directors of the Newton Symphony Orchestra, and Vice President of the Board of the Newton Community Chorus.
Wife of the late Gerald A. Sudbey and mother of the late Jeffrey A. Sudbey, she is survived by her daughter Karen Sudbey Dennis of Newton, her daughter in law Jean Sudbey of Grafton her grandchildren Connor and Elisabeth Sudbey. She was the sister of Fr. Edward P. Geary of St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish in Beverly, Patricia A. Geary of Brighton, Robert F. Geary of Arlington, Eileen G. Bellingrath of Tucker GA, Joan E. Geary of Allston, and Anne M. Sullivan of Andover. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will gather at the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St. Newton Corner on Thurs Dec 9 at 9:30 Am and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady Help of Christians Church at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Newton Cemetery. Visiting hours will be in the funeral home on Wed from 4-8 PM.
