Obituary

Leon Alfred Barnes, 84, of Tifton died Saturday, October 18, 2014, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Rev. Steve Hood, Rev. T. Manuel Johnson, Rev. Talmadge Worsley and Rev. Ike Branch officiating. Mr. Barnes will be laid to rest at Turner Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 20, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mr. Barnes’ grandchildren and Larry Dotson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Senior Adult Sunday school class at Tifton’s First Church of the Nazarene.

Mr. Barnes was born on November 23, 1929 in Tift County and was the son of Abram Barnes and Janie Hall Barnes, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one son, Mark Barnes, who died in 2013. He was retired from USDA and was the owner of Five Bridges Seafood Restaurant. He was a member of Tifton’s First Church of the Nazarene and the Donalsonville Lion’s Club, where he served as secretary/treasurer for 20 years and was a previous recipient of the Lion’s Club Melvin Jones Fellow award for humanitarian services.

Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Betty Worsley Barnes of Tifton; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Craig and Brenda Barnes of Tifton, Michael and Sara Barnes of Mableton and Britt Barnes of Monticello, Florida; one daughter, Kay English of Thomson; a daughter-in-law, wife of deceased son, Belinda Barnes of Chattanooga, Tennessee; one brother, Marion Barnes of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren, Brandon English, Korey Barnes, Amanda Barnes, Dallas Barnes, Jason English and Austin Barnes; and the mother of Craig, Britt and Mark, Janie Barnes of Tifton.
