Obituary

Pledger Curtis Coalson, 69, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Saturday, December 4, 2004 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 7, 2004, at the Ocilla United Methodist Church with Rev. Gerald Thomas and Rev. Jim Osborn officiating. Interment will follow in Ocilla Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 Monday evening at Paulk Funeral Home, Ocilla.

Mr. Coalson was born June 23, 1935, in Rockmart, Georgia, to Lois Jones Coalson and the late Curtis Coalson. He grew up in Rockmart, Georgia and was a 1954 graduate of Brown High School in Atlanta. He graduated from Georgia Tech in March of 1959. In February 1960, he received his commission from Naval Officer’s School in Newport, Rhode Island and attended the Navy Supply Corps School in Athens, Georgia. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War Era. Mr. Coalson was a former manager for Sears in Fort Pierce, Florida and a former employee of Georgia Courier Service in Atlanta. A member of the Ocilla United Methodist Church, he was the Chief Bailiff for the Irwin County Sheriff’s Office.

Mr. Coalson is survived by his wife: Dorothy Davis Coalson, Ocilla; mother: Lois Jones Coalson, Cumming, GA; one son: Pledger Curtis “Curt” Coalson, Jr., Jacksonville, FL; two daughters: Marilyn C. Dove and Elizabeth C. Portier, both of Ocilla; five grandchildren: Dennis Dove, Andrew Dove, Abby Dove, Trey Portier, and Maribeth Portier; and one sister: Vivian C. Billing, Armuchee, GA.
