Obituary

CHICOPEE – Umberto Manno, 86, of the Sandy Hill section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, October 14, 2014. He passed into Eternal Life at Western Mass Hospital in Westfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his wonderful caregivers. He was born in Serra San Bruno, Province of Vibo Valentia, Calabria, Italy on May 17, 1928, a beloved son of the late Giovanni and Brunina (Scopacasa) Manno. He was raised in Italy, moved to Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Canada around 1950, and later moved to Chicopee in 1962. He was employed as a tool maker for 30 years at Precision Products in Springfield and retired in 1988. Most of all, Umberto was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle to his family and showered them with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Angelina (Pisano) Manno. They were married on March 19, 1955 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Canada and were blessed with over 59 years of happiness together. He also leaves his loving children, Maria T. Mercier and her husband, Real, of West Springfield and John Manno and his wife, Linda, of Chicopee; his five cherished grandchildren whom he adored, Mathieu R. Mercier, Michael R. Mercier, Nickolas D. Manno, Nathan T. Manno and Ariella M. Manno; his dear sisters, Anita Barillari and her husband, Salvatore, of Toronto, Canada and Mafalda Varini of Italy; his dear sister-in-law, Ninnetta Manno of Serra San Bruno, Italy; his loving mother-in-law, Teresa Larizza of New Rochelle, NY; his dear sisters-in-law of the Pisano family, Rosa Contabile and her husband, Salvatore, of Chicopee, Annina Ciccarelli of New Rochelle, NY and Maria Caruso of Milano, Italy; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Manno and Pisano families. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his loving daughter, Bruna Manno who was Called Home on May 10, 1956; his cherished granddaughter, Amber Allycia Manno who was Called Home on February 11, 1997; his dear brothers, Salvatore Manno, Rafaele Manno, Giovanni Manno, Bruno Manno and Luigi Manno; and his dear sisters, Luisa Albano, Carmella Tassone and Rosa Vurovecz. His funeral will be held on Monday morning, October 20, 2014 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to Sainte Rose de Lima Church, c/o 15 Chapel Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
