LOWELL: Charlotte (Peabody) Simmons, age 87, a former longtime Tewksbury resident, died Friday, December 3, 2004 at Saints Memorial Medical Center. She was the widow of Willard B. Simmons who died May 29, 2001.
Born in Danvers on May 31, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Archibald and Betsy (Lewis) Peabody.
Mrs. Simmons was raised in Danvers and Boxford. She attended Boxford schools and was graduated from Boxford High School. Mrs. Simmons later attended the former Shepard Gill School of Practical Nursing, where she received certification as a licensed practical nurse.
In 1944, she enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve. She was stationed during World War II at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Chelsea, where she provided nursing care to injured troops. Mrs. Simmons later worked as a nurse at a Lowell nursing home. Prior to her retirement, she was employed for 10 years by the Brockway-Smith Company of Andover.
Mrs. Simmons resided in Tewksbury for 44 years until moving to Lowell in 2001.
She was a member of the Tewksbury Congregational Church and was a former Sunday school teacher for its religious education program.
She enjoyed reading and solving crossword puzzles.
She is survived by 1 daughter; Lucy A. Pelleriti and her husband Anthony C. Pelleriti with whom she resided of Lowell; 2 grandchildren; Katherine M. and Anthony C. Pelleriti, Jr. both of Lowell; 2 sisters; Phyllis Ross of El Chaon, CA and Kathryn Matson and her husband Don of Naples, FL; 1 brother; Archibald Peabody of Exeter, NH.
Mrs. Simmons was the sister of the late Doris Peabody, Helen MacCormack and Roger Peabody.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. At her request, there are NO Calling hours. Following cremation, interment will be at the Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
