DUDLEY – Dr. Frederick L. Busch, 80, died Thursday, October 9, 2014 in Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge after a brief illness. His wife of 44 years, Patricia Busch, died in 2007.
He leaves a son, Lee F. Busch of San Diego, CA; a daughter, Debra Blakeman of Orange; a sister Rosemarie Dravis of Florida; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Wachterhauser.
He was born in Irvington, NJ, the son of Ludwig and Rose (Pfeiffer) Busch. He graduated from Union High School where he was on the varsity wrestling and football teams. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ in 1961 and then was awarded a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, summa cum laude, at the University of Pennsylvania in 1965.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Dr. Busch owned and operated a veterinary clinic in Thompson, CT from 1965 until he retired in 2003.
He and his wife enjoyed wine and food societies. He was a member of the Worcester Tiroleans Society and had been the Grand Senechal of the Chevaliers du Tastevin, an international burgundy wine society, He also had been the president of the Central Mass Chapter of the International Wine and Food Society. He was a longtime member of the Webster-Dudley Rotary Club, serving as its president in 1976. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association and the Worcester County Veterinary Medical Association. He had served on the board of directors of the United Way of Webster and Dudley.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 13, in Waldron Cemetery, Ramshorn Road. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will perform the military honors at the cemetery. Calling hours will be from to 3:00 to 6:00 Sunday, October 12, in Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., Webster.
