Obituary

Elizabeth M. "Betty" Shea, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the Zelma Lacey House in Charlestown. She was 92 years old.

Betty was born in Boston on May 10, 1922, a daughter of the late William P. Shea and Catherine M. (Cudmore) Shea. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended St. Catherine's Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School. Elizabeth worked for over 30 years as a secretary for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Mental Health Division. Betty loved reading and watching movies. She was also devoted to her nieces and nephews.

Betty is the devoted sister of Dorothy Goguen of Dedham, Helen Petrycki of Bradford, Catherine Petrycki and her husband John of Windham N.H., Ruth Norris and her husband Thomas of Andover, Irene Fearing of North Providence R.I., Gerald Shea of Warwick R.I., and the late William, John, and Leo Shea. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Betty's visiting hours on Thursday morning October 9, 2014 from 9 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown, followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 11 A.M. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.

In lieu of flowers, kindly make a memorial donation in Betty's name to St. Francis De Sales Church Building Fund, 303 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown, Mass. 02129.

Betty's family would like to thank the staff at the Zelma Lacey House for their many years of kindness, compassion, and grace that they showed Betty. Her family would also like to thank Beacon Hospice for their help and compassion.
