Ruby Nell Seymour Courson, age 74, of Alapaha, died, Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Pruitt Health-Ocilla, in Ocilla, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at the Ocilla Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Tucker and the Rev. Rob Dowdle officiating. Al Ross will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Irwin County. The family will be receiving friends from 6-8 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla. Mrs. Courson will lie in state thirty minutes before service time at the Ocilla Baptist Church.
Mrs. Courson was born in Berrien County, on January 2, 1940 to the late and John Lee and Elsie Tucker Seymour. She graduated as salutatorian of the Irwin County High School class of 1957 and was also a graduate of Tift College and the Georgia Banking School.
Mrs. Courson was Senior Vice-President and cashier at the Bank of Ocilla, where she was employed for 37 years; beginning her career there as a drive-in window teller. She was an active member of the Ocilla Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school class for a variety of age groups. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was devoted to the upbringing of her three sons. In all that she did, she believed in the virtues of hard work and high standards.
Survivors include her husband of forty-two years, George W. Courson of Alapaha; three sons, Autry W. Ross of Houston, TX, Anthony M. Ross and wife Beth of Wray and Al D. Ross and wife Sonya of Lyons; grandchildren: Andrew L. Ross and A. Adam Ross both of Atlanta; Amanda Grace Ross of Wray; Abby Elizabeth Ross of Jacksonville, Florida and Austin C. Ross of Douglas; one sister, Virginia Claire Bennett and husband Charles of Bainbridge; and two nephews: John C. Bennett and family of Leesburg and Paul J. Bennett and family of Lynchburg, Virginia.
