Robert D. Spiller
Retired General Electric Engineer
WINDSOR: Robert D. Spiller, age 89, a resident of Windsor for the past 5 years, formerly of Tewksbury, passed away at Craneville Place in Dalton, Mass on Saturday, October 4, 2014.
He was the beloved husband of Mary V. (McDonald) Spiller, with whom he celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on May 17, 2014.
Born in Lowell on July 14, 1925, he was the son of the late Carroll D. Spiller and the late Elizabeth (Holt) Spiller.
Robert was raised in Lowell, attended Lowell Schools and graduated from Lowell High School.
In 1943, he enlisted the in the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was awarded several decorations for his military service including the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a mechanical engineer by the General Electric Company (formerly RCA Electric) in Burlington.
Mr. Spiller resided in Tewksbury for 35 years and Brooksville, FL for 20 years until moving to Windsor in 2009.
He enjoyed playing golf and was a former member of the Apple Country Club (Chelmsford Country Club). In addition, he was a New England Area sports fan and love d to watch the Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins.
Besides his wife Mary, his family includes, four children, Mark D. Spiller and his wife Kimberly of Tewksbury, Richard A. Spiller and his partner Monica McCauley of Windsor, Sandra S. Kunze and her husband Doug of Tewksbury and the late Robert D. Spiller, Jr.; six grandchildren, Brittany Flibotte-Long, Mark D. Spiller, Jr., Kayla Iovino, Kyle K. Spiller, Kassandra V. and Michael A. Spiller; also many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Spiller was the brother of the late Willis J. Spiller and his late wife Gertrude (Klufts) and Sue Gongloff and her late husband Albert.
Calling hours are Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury, immediately followed by a prayer service to be held at the funeral home.
