Lewis Edwin "Pete" Sumpter, Jr.
August 24, 1949 - October 2, 2014
Pete Sumpter, 65 of Anderson peacefully passed away surrounded by his family at his side at Indiana University Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born on August 24, 1949 to Lewis and Phyllis (Owen) Sumpter.
Pete lived in Anderson for all of his life and attended Frankton High School. He worked at ABC Rail for 24 years, and also for Prairie Concrete.
Pete loved to watch NASCAR Racing and college basketball. He also enjoyed watching his son coach basketball, going to the grandkids sporting activities, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years Lorrie (Porter) Sumpter whom he married August 21, 1971; two children that he was so proud of Michelle (Greg) McFerran of Anderson; Shane (Stephanie) Sumpter of Lapel; four precious grandkids Morgan and Trent McFerran, Emma and Logan Sumpter; a brother Terry(Sue Huss) Sumpter of Anderson; mother-in-Law Thelma Figg, several sister-in-laws, uncle Bob (Sue) Sumpter, aunt Barbara Shearer, aunt Carolyn (Bob) Eikenberry, several nieces and nephews, cousins, and a special friend Bill Ballard.
Pete was proceeded in death by his parents Lewis and Phyllis Sumpter, and brother-in-law Gerald Porter.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service from 4 to 8 pm.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service at 11 AM with Pastor John Hackney officiating.
Burial will be at Saunders Cemetery, Daleville, Indiana
