
Dr. Emmett Newell Pope, 91, of Tifton died Monday, September 29, 2014, at the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia in Tifton. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Rev. Shane Ashley officiating. Dr. Pope will be laid to rest at Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2014. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals
Dr. Pope was born on April 30, 1923 and was the son of Hilton Pope and Verna Collins McDonald, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one son, Ray Perry. He was a retired chiropractor and a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Tifton. He was also a member of the American Legion and flew B-17s in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and he was a HAM radio operator.
Dr. Pope is survived by his wife, Janet Pomahatch Perry Pope of Tifton: one son and daughter-in-law, Larry N. and Wanda Pope of Macon; one daughter, Dee Dee Hill of Tifton; five grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer Elise Shedd and husband, Thomas, and Monica Leigh Evans and husband, Todd, Trevor Schoenrock, Brandon Aultman and Selina Aultman; and ten great-grandchildren.
