He was a graduate of Ledyard High School, Class of 1993. He was on the golf team when he hit his hole in one. Jake was an avid sportsman and excelled in many sports, although golf was his true love, playing at a high level since he was eight years old.

Coach Jake was devoted to his Griswold family and the youth football program. He taught many young athletes how to perform to their best ability, play the game the right way, and to be proud of their efforts.

Wherever he traveled, he made friends. He held himself and others to a high standard, but it was tempered with a kind, giving nature. He often visited young families and patients recently diagnosed with cystic fibrosis to help them understand the challenges of the disease. Additionally, Jacob counseled those who were facing lung transplants, sharing his story and providing life lessons and experiences.
