TEWKSBURY - Mr. Robert J. “Bob” Carbone, age 84, a Veteran and machinist by trade, died peacefully on Thursday afternoon, September 25, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a courageous but brief battle with Lung Cancer. He died with his beloved family at his bedside. Mr. Carbone was the husband of Mary A. (Mosca) Carbone, with whom he had celebrated a 63rd wedding anniversary this past April 22nd.
“Bob” was born in Cambridge, September 24, 1930, one of four children of the late Robert J. and Carmella (Iantosca) Carbone. He was raised in Cambridge and graduated from Rindge and Latin High in Cambridge. He enlisted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and received an honorable medical discharge.
After his marriage, he and Mary, raised their family in East Cambridge and Somerville, lived in California in 1962 and 63, and returned to the East Coast to settle in Tewksbury in 1966. Mr. Carbone was a devout Catholic, as a communicant of St. Dorothy’s Church in Wilmington, and a member of the Fr. Coppen’s Council 4336, Knights of Columbus in Tewksbury.
He began his career as a furniture maker at the Pine and Baker Furniture Company formerly in Cambridge. He became a machinist at Honeywell in Brighton and then worked at Tech Ops in Burlington, E.D.C. in Lowell and finally Colorgen in Billerica.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four children, Robert A. “Rob” and his wife Lynn (Hayes) of Pepperell, Cheryl Carbone-Robichaud and her husband Matthew "Matt" of Hudson, NH, Lynn Marie Graham and her husband William “Bill” of Nottingham, NH, Jean Marie Thomas and her husband Eric "Ricky" of Nashua, NH; two granddaughters, Shaina Kinney of S.D., and Aubrey Guillotte of Nashua, NH; seven great grandchildren, Hannah, Abigail and Brooke, Zachery, Autumn, Aaron, and Anthony; a sister, Rosalie Reno of IL; a brother, Neal Carbone of CA; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy “Dolly” Carbone of CA and Louise Mosca of Somerville; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Anthony “Sonny” Carbone, and brother-in-law, James (Jimmy) Mosca.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, October 1, in St. Dorothy’s Church, Wilmington. Burial with Army Honors followed in Tewksbury Cemetery. Donations in Bob’s honor, may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
