Obituary

Edward C. Carberry, 91, of Greenville, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, surrounded by his loving family and his long-time companion, Mary (Ruggieri) Nauman. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Charles and Marion (Lavey) Carberry and was a life long resident of Smithfield.

Edward was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Forces from 1942-1945, completing 61 missions as a B-26 tail gunner. He was the owner of the former Edray Appliance in North Providence, along with his late partner, Raymond L. Douglas. Mr. Carberry was a member of Melody Hill Golf Course and he was an active member of the Smithfield Elks, where he enjoyed playing cards. His favorite pastime was telling jokes to his many friends at the Greenville Inn and Crickets.

He was the beloved father of Robert Carberry, Janice Van Orden, and her husband, John, Ronald Carberry, and Sandra Douglas and her husband, Jim. He was the grandfather of Carly, Adam, Daniel, Ashley, Mark, Jesse, and Julia. He was the great-grandfather of Shawna, Parker, Kyler, and Cameron; the brother of Catherine Murphy, Alice Deshaies, Donald Carberry, and the late Elizabeth Bushell and Marion Benck. Ed was also the step-father of Joanne Henault and her husband,Kenny, grandfather of David Henault and his wife, Andrea, and great-grandfather of Mason and Mia.

His funeral will be held on Thursday at 8:30 AM from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44, Greenville Common, Greenville. A mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 AM in St. Philip's Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville, RI. Burial with Military Honors at Rhode Island Veteran's Cemetery. Visitation on Wednesday from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Smithfield Elks, 326 Farnum Pike, Smithfield, RI.
