Michael A. Gioia, 91 of Medford died Monday in the South Shore Hospital Weymouth, MA.
Born in Boston, he lived in Medford for over 50 years and was the son of the late Maria (Messina) and Peter Gioia. Michael was a waiter at all the major hotels including the Somerset, Sheraton and Black Angus Hotels in Boston for over 30 years. He also was Room Service Captain at the Hollywood Beach Hotel in Florida for 9 years.
He served in the U. S. Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946 as a Corporal. Michael was also a member of the Hotel Waiters Association Local 26.
Beloved husband of the late Edna (Stowe)Gioia. Devoted father of Peter Gioia of East Haddam, CT and Michelina Berg of Cohasset. Loving grandfather of Allison, Alexander, and Parker Berg. Brother of Andrew Gioia, Mary Sullivan both of Medford, Joseph Gioia of Boston, and the late Frank and Philip Gioia.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Saturday at 8 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High St., Medford, at 9 AM.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Visiting hours Friday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
