Obituary

NATICK: Frances L. (Sumner) MacLean, 88, died peacefully and comfortably surrounded by her family on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 following a period of declining health.
She was born in Woburn on April 9, 1926 the daughter of the late Albert Sumner and Marguerite (Nolan) Sumner.
She was the beloved wife of the late Duncan Irving MacLean, Jr. who died on January 21, 2001.
Frances is survived by her loving and devoted children L. Jane LaPierre of Sudbury; Maureen Dame of Natick; Charles MacLean and his wife Harriet MacLean of Framingham and John MacLean of Holliston. Mother-in-law of the late Russell Dame who died in July 2012. Cherished grandmother of Robin Trovato, William Scanlon, Jeffrey Dame, Matthew Dame, Samantha Beard, Sarah Mauro, Sandy Horne, Teri Roberts, Jonathan LaPierre, Andrew Susan and Lisa Barker. Sister of Elizabeth Byrnes of FL; Annette Coccoluto of Woburn and Judy Foley of Wilmington, the late Barbara Pendergast, Marguerite “Cindy” Nichols and Roger Sumner. Also survived by 20 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews
Frances spent her formative years in Woburn and was a graduate of Woburn High School with the Class of 1943. She has been a resident of Natick for over 40 years and spent several years in retirement in Largo, FL with her husband Duncan from 1994 to 2007 when she returned to Natick to be closer to her family.
She retired after over 25 years of dedicated service to the Town of Natick as the Director of the Natick Contributory Retirement System in 1991.
Frances was a member of the Red Hat Society, established a chapter and was the Queen Mom for three years. She enjoyed dressing up in her purple outfit, complete with Red Hat shoes and matching jewelry. She enjoyed crafts of all types including sewing and knitting and always had a ball of yarn with her creating something. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her family who was the center of her life. Nana will always be remembered as my princess by her knight in shining armor.
Visitations will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00 at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 8:30 am followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Patrick’s Church, 44 East Central Street (Rte 135) Natick.
Interment will follow in the MacLean family lot in Dell Park Cemetery in Natick.
In lieu of flowers her family suggests that memorial gifts in her memory may be sent to the Sturge-Weber Foundation, PO BOX 428, Mt. Freedom, NJ 07970.
